OH MAN! My favorite blog by far! (act surprised)

So, this came up with Kaitlyn recently. Let me note that Kaitlyn is age 5.

I was in my room after her bed time when she unexpectedly opens the door to find.... Me watching "Sex and the City" Re-Runs!!!! (yes, you all know this is just as bad as her walking in on actual sex, if not worse...have you seen some of the things in that show?!)

I pause the show as quick as humanly possible.

And she says, "Mommy, what are you watching?

I pause and then say....glancing at the paused image of 4 middle-aged women drinking cocktails, and I say, "It's called....Girls in the City."

She smiles, "Great! I'm a girl! I'll watch it with you."

I say, "Well, you...can't."

She says, "Why not?"

(sigh)

I say, "Because ... you're not ready. There's a lot of adult stuff in here. Kissing and...other stuff."

She says, "Mom. I see you and daddy kiss. I can handle it."

(When did she learn to say "I can handle it?!" - she's 5!!)

I say, "No, really, you can't."

"Why not? What do they do?"

(sigh) ... "Well, they kiss, and...they touch their boyfriends sometimes..."

Kaitlyn interjects, "I hold hands with Andrew at school. I can handle it mom."

She doesn't even start Kindergarden til September. Sheesh.

I say, "It's just that there's...more...than that."

She says, "Like what?"

I say, "Well... what do you think happens when a boy and a girl are dating each other?"

It was time to find out what she knew.

She pauses and says, "Well, they go out to dinner together, and they talk about each other. And sometimes they go to the movies too!"

I decided this year wasn't quite the year for "the talk", so I told her she was right, and that she still had to go to bed...because it was her bedtime.

When all else fails, the whole "bed time" thing works for a while. Especially since she can't read clocks yet. Sometimes she goes to bed at 6pm ;)
